and BRIDGE OF FLOWERS bike ride Oct. 7, 2006 |
64 miles . high temperature 65 degrees |
Starting from
the Book Mill in Montague,
Mass., we followed the Book Mill cue
sheet from Seven Hills Wheelmen. Using the Rubel Bike Map for Western Massachusetts, we added a detour to the Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne Falls. It was about 45 degrees at the start at 9:30, but we were warmed up soon -- this ride has lots of climbing! 2009 photos .............................. 2008 video |

From the top of Mount Sugarloaf in South Deerfield, overlooking the Connecticut River and the town of Sunderland, we watched hot air balloons take off. |

From Mount Sugarloaf you can see
the Julia Child corn maze, but you can't quite make out the design. This picture is from mikesmaze.com. (Listen to the National Public Radio story.) |
The largest sycamore tree east of the Mississippi River, known locally as the Buttonball tree. More than 200 years old, the tree is on Route 47 (North Main Street) in Sunderland. |
Appealing atmosphere, good menu. We love the warm brown rice salad (here's the recipe). |
