BOOK MILL
and
BRIDGE OF FLOWERS bike ride

Oct. 11, 2009
64 miles

high  temperature
57 degrees
.

A fall favorite: Starting from the Book Mill in Montague, Mass.,
we follow the Book Mill cue sheet from Seven Hills Wheelmen.
More of the scenic highlights are shown in our
2006 photos and Pete's 2008 video and SL's 2009 photos.
Ready to roll.

It was about
44 degrees
at the start
at 9:30,
but we
warmed up
fast --
this ride
has lots
of climbing! 3,409 feet, according to MapMyRide, but we're not sure that's accurate.

Rollout. The cool thing about this photo
is that SL took it while coasting on his bike,  going in the same direction as the group, twisting at the waist to look at us, no hands on the bars!
The climbing starts at mile 10, with a switchback
on South Shelburne Road in Greenfield.
Checking out the glacial potholes
at Salmon Falls, just across the bridge from McCusker's Market in Shelburne Falls.

A short walk on the Bridge of Flowers

Although it's peak foliage time, plenty
of flowers
are still
in bloom
on the bridge.

.Start/finish: Book Mill -- "Books you don't need in a place you can't find."
Post-ride refreshments: Lady Killigrew Cafe at the Book Mill --
Appealing atmosphere, good menu.We love the warm brown rice salad (here's the recipe).
