BOOK MILL
and
BRIDGE OF FLOWERS bike ride
Oct. 15, 2011
65 miles

high  temperature
60 degrees

.

A fall favorite: Starting near the Book Mill in Montague, Mass.,
we follow the Book Mill cue sheet from Seven Hills Wheelmen.
More of the scenic highlights are shown in our
2006 photos,  Pete's 2008 video, our 2009 photos and SL's 2009 photos.
New meeting place this year: Montague Center School. That way we don't tie up parking spaces all day at the Book Mill. Cast of characters: Dawn, John, Gary, Bill, Rick & Lynne.
Bardwell's Ferry Bridge
spans the Deerfield River
between Shelburne and Conway.
We have earned this long descent into Buckland.
This ride has 6,115 feet of climbing,
according to RideWithGPS.com.

Video
of flooding
 during Tropical Storm Irene

The glacial potholes are underwater
since the storm damage.

The water came right up to the Iron Bridge during Tropical Storm Irene on Aug. 28.
Above, porches have been rebuilt,
and stone work is under way.

The pictures of the double rainbow over the Connecticut River were taken from the bridge seen in the photo above, as we crossed into Sunderland.
.Start/finish: Book Mill -- "Books you don't need in a place you can't find."
Post-ride refreshments: Lady Killigrew Cafe at the Book Mill --
Appealing atmosphere, good menu.We love the warm brown rice salad (here's the recipe).
