Friday, Sept. 10

We had flown to Denver on Sept. 9 and were staying with our friend Brenda in Boulder for four nights. Brenda's house is about five miles from the Fourmile Canyon fire that started Sept. 6 and was still not contained when we arrived. Some 169 homes were burned down.

Brenda was a mainstay in the Seven Hills Wheelmen bicycle club in Worcester, Mass., until she retired to Boulder in 2001. She leads treks in the Himalayas and was getting ready for her eighth trip to Nepal.

On Friday we met up with Rick's college friend Linda, also a transplant from Massachusetts, and hiked the Flatirons Vista Trail south of Boulder.

we hiked at bit
at Chautauqua,
on the Bluebell-Baird
and Royal Arch
trails.

Dinner was
at the Happy Noodle with Teri and Kevin & Sue, more friends who have moved from Massachusetts to Boulder.
