Atomic Bomb Museum

It started off sunny, the hottest day yet. We biked a couple of miles to the area where the United States dropped its second atomic bomb, on Aug. 9, 1945, leading Japan to surrender and thus ending World War II. The Atomic Bomb Museum contains many items damaged in the blast and resulting fires, as well as exhibits about Nagasaki before and after the bombing, the effects of radiation, the nuclear arms race and the anti-nuclear movement.

Near the museum stands a one-legged torii (arch). The other leg was sheared off by the blast.
