Musoen onsen

We rode back down to central Yufuin ...

... and uphill on the other side to an onsen called Musoen. This was the busiest onsen to date, with a busload of tourists just arriving. Rick said the men's bath was unremarkable. The women's bath was very large, with a great view of Mount Yufu.

Next we got lunch at a conbini, ate it beside Lake Kinrin, window-shopped and did some errands -- got groceries and replaced a bolt that had shaken loose from my rear pannier rack. The big hill up to the hostel wasn't so hard without panniers.
For dinner, the hostel staff drove us and one other guest to an inexpensive restaurant in town. Our companion's English was quite limited so we just had what she had, chicken with rice, and miso soup.
