Okonomi-yaki

Okonomi-yaki turned out to be one of our favorite Japanese foods. It's a big fat pancake, with okonomi (literally, whatever you like) mixed in. The raw ingredients are brought to your table, which is a grill, and you cook it like an omelette. Here, Kazuko first grills the seafood filling for her pancake while Neal stirs the batter, egg and vegetables for his. The condiments include a Worcestershire-like sauce, katsuo (dried fish shavings), and aonori (green seaweed powder).

And here's a recipe.

At home we buy Otafuku brand okonomi-yaki sauce at an Asian market. Visit the Otafuku web site for a different recipe, using udon noodles.
