Trains

The ticket seller at the Takeo train station tried to tell us that we couldn't take bikes on the train, but we explained, mostly by pantomime and sketching, that we could put the bikes in bags like suitcases, so he sold us tickets, about $21 each. Then, when we were securing the nylon covers, he came out of the booth and seemed to disapprove, but we ignored him. We got on the Sasebo line at 12:40 for a half-hour ride to Haiki, where we changed trains.

Good thing the trains weren't crowded -- the bikes and panniers took up four seats.

The train went along Omura Bay, then through a couple of tunnels as we neared Nagasaki. We arrived about 3:10 p.m.
