Wednesday, Sept. 21 -- Topaz Lake, Nev., to Lee Vining, Calif. (Mono Lake) -- 83 miles
Morning sun at Topaz Lake
We warmed up quickly,
climbing from the lake back up to the highway.
A long, straight, gradual and hot climb
 in Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest
Sweetwater Summit
(elev. 6,812 feet)
Conversation
with the legendary
Marty from California
helped the miles
tick by on the way
to Conway Summit
(elev. 8,138 feet).
This was our
longest riding day,
83 miles.
The lookout
just after
Conway Summit
offered a sweeping
view of Mono Lake
-- and the fabulous
downhill ahead.

We pedaled over the Jack Wright Summit (elev. 5,483 feet) and down into the Smith Valley.

After
Sweetwater
Summit, we re-entered California,
heading for Bridgeport.
Bridgeport Reservoir
Barb from Michigan won the
trip's
Ansel Adams
shutterbug
award.

Shaded picnic tables
and
lush grass were hits
at our
lunch spot in Bridgeport.
Phil from Idaho
We paused at the entrance to Mono Lake Visitor Center, but decided to check it out the next day.
